Timeless Collectibles

A watch is a timepiece that is usually worn around the wrist or on a chain and carried in one’s pocket. The earliest dated watch goes back to 1530 (shown above).

Watches main functions are to provide the time of day but have many other uses as well. Many watches nowadays provide the date or month. Some have such advanced technology, they are used in space or for scuba diving. The most popular use {and my favorite} is for fashion.

From a young age, I have always had a fascination for watches. Wherever my mother and I went, I could find a new one that just needed to be added to my collection. For the past few years, I have noticed inexpensive fashion watches have become a must have item. Props to Michael Kors for hitting the nail on the head with his line of watches!

Antique wrist or pocket watches are often seen as collectible works of art.  Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is hosting an auction on Tuesday, April 8th of fine timepieces from several estates across the country and some from the collection of a member of the Royal Family, United Arab Emirates. The varying types of watches are stunning. From antique pocket watches to jewel encrusted faces, you will see an assortment that would be any watch collectors dream!

Here are a few of my favorites that are up for bid…

Operation Home-Beautiful — Part 5 of 6

It is often one truly special accent piece that brings an entire room together. This year, we suggest going new and going bold with one of the art world’s hottest mediums: photography. And we have just the man for the job.

Meet Christopher P. Leidy: native Palm Beacher, global adventurer, underwater photographer extraordinaire. Innately talented and steadfastly dedicated to his art, Leidy is quickly earning a place among the elite recorders of life below the water’s surface. His intensely vivid photographs will not only delight the ocean enthusiast, they will seduce the lover of contemporary fine art, transporting the viewer with unstudied honesty into an aquatic world most people will not experience in their lifetime. Created in limited editions of 5 to 21 pieces, his current collection (his ninth overall) was shot in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, French Polynesia, Panama, Guatemala and The Bahamas.

The time is right to invest in Leidy’s work. His star rose early — he sold 16 of 21 pieces on the first night of his first-ever solo show — and has since continued an ever-upward trend. His solo shows now number more than 12 across the country; recent exhibitions include a prominent place in the Elle Décor Showhouse at Miami’s Art Basel; write-ups about his work have appeared in The Wall Street JournalForbes Magazine and Condé Nast Traveler; and clients include Jimmy Buffett and Douglas Durst.

In spite of his success, Leidy remains as humble as ever — and just as eager to plan his next months-long trip to a new outdoor/underwater office. His Royal Poinciana Way gallery is a must-visit, and if he is not halfway around the world in 5,000 feet of water when you stop in, he will probably be there to welcome you himself. Now about that new accent piece of yours…
